Russ-Stick Acres

Russ-Stick Acres is seeking  a male apprentice to learn all aspects of the homestead life in rural northern Lower Michigan. 

We own and maintain a 20+ dog kennel of both Siberians and Alaskans, providing sled dog tours to the public during the winter months. 

We raise beef, pork, lamb, goats and chickens.  Apprenticeship includes livestock care, including horses.  Milking goats.  Other activities include maple syrup production, rough construction, obtaining firewood, planting and maintaining a produce garden, composting, sawmilling, fence work, trail and campsite upkeep, snow removal and general farm maintenance. 

You will be trained, if necessary, to use a tractor and attachments.  Opportunity to train and exercise dog teams and horses exists on a daily basis.

Applicant must be able and willing to work long hours and enjoy being outside in all types of weather.  Seeking self-motivated individual with a positive attitude, good work ethic, and a sense of humor.  No drinking, drugs, or drama permitted.

Working at Russ-Stick Acres is not a job.  It is a life style, working six days a week, with Sundays including necessary chores only.   Opportunities are available for earning money through sale of hand-made items. 

Housing is a small private shelter cabin, with solar shower and rustic facilities. 

Russ-Stick Acres hosts two large social events each summer.  Russ-Stick Days and Meet the Mushers.  You will be expected to prepare for and participate in both. 

Applicant must be able to live independently within our 40-acres.  References required.
